‘Western Skies Motel, Colorado, 1978’ by Ernst Haas
There’s such a visual mystery to this image that somehow I can’t ignore. That bit of road side America very much still lives in Colorado, even 30 years after this photo was taken. But already Haas seemed to recognize the growing unease and dissolution of this enigmatic land. The dark storm from above engulfs the horizon, and only the reflection of out the sideview mirror gives a glimpse of light and color in the inky black ground.
